about

2013 saw an especially solid musical cycle wax strong in Brisbane.

A flare of communal creativity in the city's ongoing alternative history, it represented — among many things to many people — a pure enthusiasm for experimentation, self-expression and community, as well as disdain for the 'Making It' narrative.

Already a fan of Brisbane’s music culture — its wonky, obtuse sounds that actively elude classification — subversively useless and unprofitable, wry regurgitations against a state that Can’t Stop Progress — Samuel Miers (School Girl Report) immersed himself still deeper in the scene after having followed a girl north to the city.

Recall Hz collects stand-outs selected by Miers from among the extensive live recordings he made during his time there.

Capturing moments and ideas rather than sound waves in highest fidelity — appropriate to artefacts of a DIY ethos — these recordings, taken as they are, provide an aural impression of what it meant to live Brisbane in 2013.
